Harold was born in
Padiham, the only child of Robert and Sarah Jane Bispham.
Whilst Harold was a baby, his father was appointed Water Bailiff
to the Padiham District Council at their waterworks at Churn Clough,
Sabden.
Harold
grew up at Churn Clough and attended
Sabden
County
School
and St Nicholas Church and
Sunday School. He began work
as a water bailiff working alongside his father at the Churn Clough
Waterworks.
Harold
joined the army in 1917 and served on the
Somme
,
France
transporting the wounded from
the front line to the casualty clearing stations.
On
2nd November 1918 Mr
and Mrs Bispham received a telegram informing them that their son was
himself in a casualty clearing station seriously ill with pneumonia.
On 20th November, the sad news was received from
France
that Harold had passed away
from pneumonia on
Wednesday 6th
November 1918
.
Harold
Bispham was buried at the Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension,
Somme
,
France
.
In Sabden he has been remembered on both the School and Church Plaques.
